Winter on the Inner Coast

Storm Watching Season

Feel like a sailor on the high seas.

Our east beach at Cowichan Head sits on the southern approaches to the Strait of Georgia, facing southeast into wind-whipped winter weather. Incoming storm whitecaps can feel as though they are towering over your head—making Beachcomber feel like the storm-watching bullseye of the inner coast.

For winter-ready, self-contained RVs; exact sites depend on availability.

The Beachcomber View

True, in-your-face storm watching.

For true, in-your-face storm watching, there’s no need to plan an expensive trip to distant west coast venues. From well back in an area open to guests, come see waves that can feel like they’re going to soak you—that unmistakable “coming right at you” storm watching, right at your campground and so close to everything.

Bring it on.

Winter here is wet, windy, and changeable. It is not everyone’s idea of a quiet coastal stay—and for guests who love the raw side of the coast, that is exactly the point.

Make a Winter Stay of It

The weather outside. A cosy RV inside the bay.

After the show outside, head into Victoria for a well-deserved dinner before retiring for the night to your cosy, winter-ready RV.

One of our more sheltered waterfront sites inside the bay may be available, but exact site placement and relative shelter depend on availability, weather, and operating conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

Storm Watching FAQ

When is Storm Watching Season?

Beachcomber is open year round, with winter rates from October 16 to April 15. Individual storms do not follow a schedule, so check the forecast when planning your stay.

Are storms, views, or a sheltered waterfront site guaranteed?

No. Storm timing and intensity, wind, visibility, wave activity, and shoreline conditions all vary. Relative shelter and exact site placement depend on availability, weather, and operating conditions, so a winter reservation does not guarantee a storm, a particular view, or a particular site.

What should I know before booking a winter site?

Arrive in a winter-ready, self-contained RV with its own bathroom and holding tanks. Sites include water and site-dependent 15/20/30 amp power; bathrooms and sani-station service are available, but there are no showers or individual sewer hookups. More sheltered waterfront placement depends on availability and conditions.
